1. Introduction

South City Nursing Home is committed to the safe and responsible management of bio-medical waste (BMW) in compliance with the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016, set by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. Our goal is to ensure environmental protection, prevent infection risks, and safeguard public health through efficient waste handling, segregation, storage, transportation, and disposal.

2. Objectives

  • Ensure proper segregation, collection, and disposal of bio-medical waste.
  • Comply with regulatory guidelines and environmental safety measures.
  • Prevent infections and minimize health hazards for patients, healthcare workers, and the community.
  • Promote eco-friendly waste disposal methods and reduce environmental impact.

3. Waste Segregation & Classification

South City Nursing Home follows the color-coded segregation system as per regulatory standards:

4. Waste Collection & Storage

  • Waste is collected at the source of generation using designated color-coded bins.
  • Sharp waste is stored in puncture-proof containers to avoid injuries.
  • Waste is temporarily stored in a designated Bio-Medical Waste Storage Room before transportation.

5. Waste Transportation & Disposal

  • Bio-medical waste is transported in sealed, labeled containers to avoid spillage and contamination.
  • We have an agreement with an authorized BMW treatment facility for proper incineration, autoclaving, and shredding.
  • Deep burial is used for anatomical waste in areas with low water tables, as per CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) guidelines.

6. Infection Control Measures

  • Regular disinfection of waste storage areas and collection bins.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) for all waste handlers.
  • Staff training on proper handling and segregation of bio-medical waste.

7. Compliance & Monitoring

  • Monthly internal audits to ensure proper BMW handling.
  • Periodic waste disposal reports submitted to regulatory authorities.
  • Annual training sessions for staff to update them on waste management protocols.
